Actor Mark Rylance has one of the most enviable list of film, theatre and television credits to his name alongside winning pretty much every acting accolade and award under the sun.

In a career that began with his first professional role at Glasgow Citizens' Theatre in 1980 the 61-year-old actor and director has gone onto win Academy Awards, Tony Awards, Olivier Awards and BAFTAs.

Born in Ashford in Kent Mark Rylance became the first artistic director of Shakespeare's Globe in London, between 1995 and 2005.

He won a best acting Olivier Award West End productions of Much Ado About Nothing in 1994 and Jerusalem in 2010 and Tony Awards for Broadway shows Boeing Boeing in 2008 and Jerusalem in 2011.

He then won best actor TV BAFTAs for playing David Kelly in the 2005 Channel 4 drama The Government Inspector and Thomas Cromwell in the 2015 BBC Two mini-series Wolf Hall.

However it was in 2015 the actors brilliance came to the attention of the wider public when he won an Oscar and BAFTA film award for the best supporting actor playing Rudolf Abel in Steven Spielberg's Bridge of Spies.

The following year Rylance and the ET and Schindler's List director teamed up again for a live action adaptation of Roald Dahl's BFG.

Mark met his wife Claire van Kampen, in 1988 when the pair were working on a production at the National Theatre.

Claire, who is also a composer and director, was previously married to architect, Chris van Kampen, who she had two children with.

Her film-maker daughter Nataasha van Kampen sadly died in July 2012 at the age of 28, but her other daughter, and Mark's stepdaughter, is the well-known actress Juliet Rylance.
