The newest Guardians of the Galaxy super bowl trailer premiered last night during the Super Bowl and can be watched below.
“Are you ready for one last ride?” This is the question that Chris Pratt’s Peter Quill/Star-Lord asks in the final Guardians of the Galaxy film’s Super Bowl trailer, and nearly five million views on YouTube in just 13 hours is a pretty good sign that the audience’s answer to that question is yes.
The Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 3 trailer was one of the most highly anticipated Super Bowl trailers this year, with the film set to debut on May 5, 2023. And the trailer did not disappoint. The two minute and 22-second preview showed that everything that fans love about the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise is back in this film: humor, heart, and kick-ass classic rock music.
The Guardians of the Galaxy Super Bowl trailer gave us a glimpse of the plot of the film, part of which is shown to revolve around the origins of Rocket, the feisty talking raccoon voiced by Bradley Cooper. According to its listing on IMDb, the film also sees Peter Quill lead the team on a mission that “could mean the end of the Guardians if not successful.” No pressure, right?
In just two minutes, the Guardians of the Galaxy Super Bowl trailer confirmed the return of all the main Guardians: Christ Pratt as Star-Lord, Bradley Cooper as Rocket, Vin Diesel as Groot, Dave Bautista as Drax, and Zoe Saldana as an alternate Gamora after the original Gamora died in the previous film. It also shows that Nebula, played by Karen Gillan, has joined the team. Pom Klementieff’s Mantis is there too, as is Kraglin (Sean Gunn) and Cosmo (Maria Bakalova), as well as Adam Warlock (Will Poulter), who is connected to Rocket’s past.
After the Guardians of the Galaxy Super Bowl trailer debuted, viewers flocked to YouTube to watch it again to share their thoughts in the comments. Several of them admitted that it was bittersweet to watch the trailer, knowing that this would be the last time we get to see the Guardians of the Galaxy all together on film.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is writer/director James Gunn’s last Marvel movie. As superhero movie enthusiasts will know, he has recently switched teams and taken over as CEO of DC Studios, where he is now shaking up the whole DC Universe as we know it. It is also rumored to be the final Marvel film for Dave Bautista as well, who plays Drax, but we’re not sure if this is due to his character potentially dying in the film, or if it is just because Bautista is looking to move on to different roles outside of the MCU.
Sunday’s Super Bowl was expected to bring in millions of viewers as football fans (and fans of big, expensive commercials) tuned in to watch the Philadelphia Eagles take on the Kansas City Chiefs and a quite possibly pregnant Rihanna sing during the halftime show. It is because of this huge amount of viewers that Super Bowl commercial slots are some of the most highly coveted slots on television, so the Guardians of the Galaxy Super Bowl trailer was surely seen by many (many) more than just the paltry four million who have watched it on YouTube so far.
So yes, Star-Lord, I think everyone is ready for one last ride with the Guardians.
