Will Ospreay has regained the gold, and he scored a major victory in the process.
At AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door, Ospreay challenged Kenny Omega for the IWGP Unted States Heavyweight Championship. The match marked the latest round in their heated feud. Previously, Omega beat Ospreay to win the title at NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 17 on January 4.
Ospreay and Omega waged war and threw everything they had at each other. The challenger smashed Omega’s head on the broadcast table and bounced his head off the steps. In doing so, he drew first blood. But just a few minutes later, Omega slammed Ospreay onto the steps and turned the challenger into the bloody mess. The two stars went back and forth all match long. Well after Ospreay started bleeding, he took the sky with an impressive dive to the outside.
Don Callis was a factor throughout the match, as Omega’s former manager got involved at multiple points. Callis was ejected from ringside, but he returned for the closing stages. He directly interfered, and when the referee tried to deal with him, he handed Ospreay a screwdriver. The challenger then hit Omega with the weapon, but the champion refused to stay down.
Ospreay even hit Omega’s One-Winged Angel, but the champion kicked out at one. The two rivals kept battling, and in the end, Ospreay wouldn’t be denied, as he clinched the victory with the Hidden Blade and the Storm Breaker. After the bell, medical officials checked on Omega, and Ospreay walked away with Callis.
